Mike Nelson started coaching youth sports in 1998 at Soderville Blaine Athletic Association (SBAA) with 6U- 10U.

In 2004 he started the Soderville Bengal Fastpitch traveling program where he coached until forming the Minnesota Moose in 2009.

In 2017 he partnered with Matt Faulken at Complete Game to expand the Minnesota Moose Club within Minnesota and Top Tier.

He is a father and coach of three girls and one boy. Two of which went on to play college level ball, one at U of MN Duluth and one at Concordia Saint Paul.  Nelson married his high school sweetheart and values sharing genuine softball experiences with the next generation of Moose players and their families.

Nelson is not a stat guy, “but I’m sure I’ve won more games than I’ve lost playing and coaching baseball and softball.” Nelson has helped many Moose kids go on to play sports in college. These include D1, D2, D3, and Junior College levels of play.

“What’s cool is that besides softball we have had Moose girls that compete at the next level in volleyball, track, basketball, and hockey.”
